With the introduction of the Boeing 777 Freighter (777F) into operations in Shanghai, China, FedEx aims to further strengthen its air freight network in the Asia-Pacific region. China represents one of FedEx's fastest-growing markets in Asia-Pacific, while Shanghai serves as the largest export gateway for shipments destined for the United States. The deployment of this new cargo aircraft is expected to help meet the continuously increasing transportation demands of customers.
FedEx Express was the first U.S.-based international express air transportation company to incorporate the Boeing 777 Freighter (777F) into its aircraft fleet. It is also the operator with one of the largest orders for this advanced aircraft model. FedEx Express planned to operate four Boeing 777F flights on routes between Asia and the United States by April 2010.
Furthermore, by the end of fiscal year 2014, the company expected to operate a total of 15 Boeing 777F aircraft within its fleet. At the time, FedEx Express was in the process of ordering an additional 15 Boeing 777F aircraft, scheduled for delivery between fiscal years 2014 and 2019. The company also indicated the possibility of placing orders for a further 15 aircraft in the future.
